CALO Y3 Demo Instructions

IMPORTANT NOTES

  • Only the military transition meetings are available.
  • The installation zip file is big (approx. 600MB). It contains everything you need, including audio files.
  • The server is configured to run both NOMOS and the browser server together. The location of the NOMOS cursor detemines the set of things shown in the browser (i.e. only things which have occurred before the time of the cursor). This allows us to play NOMOS and then watch the browser refresh as things evolve.

INSTALLATION

  • 1) get one windows computer (preferably really fast) for a server and another computer to use as a browser client

  • 2) download http://godel.stanford.edu/~niekrasz/calo-demo.zip to the server

  • 3) create a folder called calo-demo, preferably under c:/

  • 4) unzip the calo-demo.zip file into that directory, which will give you a hierarchy like this:

        calo-demo/
            calo/
            corpora/
            ...

  • 5) if you did not install at c:/, add the following line to calo-demo/calo/lib/config/calo.local.config, changing the location appropriately (must be absolute)

        file.lookup.path=[c:/calo-demo/meetings/data]

  • 6) set the MERCURY_HOME environment variable to the absolute location of where you placed the calo-demo folder, e.g.: c:/calo-demo

  • 7) in cygwin, change directories to calo-demo/calo/run

  • 8) chmod a+x the Service Manager.bat file so that it is executable

STARTING THE SERVER

  • 1) start the server by running Service Manager.bat (in cygwin, you must be currently in the calo-demo/calo/run directory; I'm not sure how clicking on it from the Explorer will work)

  • 2) wait for both NOMOS and the browser server to start (15-30 seconds)
